On the way out of Volvic, take the D941 up to the locality" le
Cratère" then follow on your left the Puy de Dôme road
sign. Follow the D90 in direction of Orcines. At the end of
the village of Ternant, a pretty viewpoint is indicated; always follow the
"Puy
de Dôme" road signs.
As going down the Puy de Dôme, take the D941a in direction of “le
Mont Dore” then turn on your left in direction of Laschamps by
the D767a. Continue on the D52 until Beaune then take the D778,
then the D5 up to the “château de
Montlosier” in the Auvergne Natural Park of the Volcanoes
Take the road again up to the N89 then turn on
your right by the D561 in direction of Aurières. After Bessat, you
will find in a curve on your left a small road indicated Moleide /
Malvaisse, drive there and take advantage of this beautiful landscape
that will lead you up to the “Lac Servières.”
Leave by the D983 in direction of Col de la Ventouse on the N89 and
follow the D213 up to the “Lac d’Aydat”.
Turn back up to the crossroads, then take the direction of Rouillas le
Bas / St. Amand Tallende, go across the village and turn on the left:
Rouillas le haut / Montagne de la Serre by the D145. In Nadaillat,
turn on the right towards Montagne de la Serre / Migration des oiseaux
taking the D96. At the end of Chadrat, at the stop, go straight ahead in
direction of Saint Amand Tallende, then at the “give way” sign, take
on the right in order to visit the village of "Saint
Saturnin", its castle and its church.
Take the road in the opposite direction then go across Saint Amand
Tallende and Tallende. Follow the sign Clermont Ferrand, and then take
the D786 in direction of "Le Crest", then the D52d up to "le
château de la Batisse". On your right when going down,
you can see troglodyte’s dwellings on top of which stands a tower.
Turn back by the D52 then take the direction of “château
d’Opme" on the left to turn finally on the right some
kilometres further at the signs " Plateau de
Gergovie." Turn back up to the junction and take in front
of you the D120 in direction of Ceyrat, then follow Royat.
In Royat, at the crossroads, take on your right “parc thermal",
at the other crossroads, turn on the right "Chamalières /
Galloubies", then turn on the left to follow straight ahead
“grotte du chien" that is immediately located on your
right in the curve.
On the way out, take the street in front of the
cave, pass under the bridge. At the stop turn on the right, then after the
traffic light, turn on the left by the D941c in direction of Durtol /
Volvic.
At the end of Durtol, drive on the D941 during several kilometres up to
the Tourtoule sign, D407 on your right.
At the end of this small village, go back to
Volvic.
